4th Int’l Meshkat Quran Competition; Details & Awards

TEHRAN (Meshkat) – The 4th edition of the Meshkat international Quran competition is set to be held in Iran in the coming months.

In a press conference held at IQNA headquarters in Tehran on Tuesday, Hojat-ol-Islam Mojtaba Mohammadi, the director of the Meshkat Quranic Institute, provided details about the upcoming Quranic program.

He said that the event comprises national and international sections. The national section includes four categories of memorization of the entire Quran, recitation by imitating the style of prominent qaris, Tarteel, and Adhan (call to prayer). The international section comprises the first two mentioned categories and will be held for men and women above and below 16 years old in separate groups.

The preliminary stage will be held virtually and winners will make it to the next stage which will be held in person, added Mohammadi.

The registration will open on June 11 and will go through July 10, he said, adding that the national section will wrap up on September 9.

October 8 to 10 has been set as the date for holding the international section and the closing ceremony will be staged on October 18, concurrent with the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he added.

The winner of each category will bring home 800 million Rials (nearly $2,600 USD) while the two next ranks will receive 700 and 600 million Rials (nearly $2,300 and $2,000 USD) respectively.

Participants in the recitation category should imitate one of the following four recitations:

-        Verses 6 to 25 of Surah Al-Inshiqaq by Shahat Muhammad Anwar

-        Verses 1 to 18 of Surah Al-Balad by Abdul Basit

-        Verses 22 to 24 of Surah Al-Hashr by Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi

-        Verses 250 to 252 of Surah Al-Baqarah by Mustafa Ismail

The winner of this section at the national level will also compete in the international section as Iran’s representative.
